Tracks of the Week: The Apples in Stereo, Vetiver, Empire of the Sun, Regina Spektor, MoZella

This week, I have decided to finish the 2nd season of the TV show Castle, starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic. So, for this week – instead of movies, we focus on this show’s music. Truth is, a TV show is also great source of indie-cute songs, and Castle produces a great playlist. So, let’s start!

5. The Apples in stereo – 7 Stars

The Apples in stereo is an American indie rock band. The first song that I heard from them was ‘Dance Floor’ which I meant to put here before, but probably forgot – ha! Luckily, people from Castle reintroduced me to these guys when they used this track at the opening of Episode 17.

4. Vetiver – Everyday

‘Course, my ears would always turn to Folk – Vetiver is actually an American Folk band rubbing elbows and touring with Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom – which is awesome. This song, Everyday, is featured on Episode 9.

3. Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream

Okay, this song is an exception. This did not come from Castle – this rather came from Hall Pass (2010). The song sounded familiar when it was playing in the background, so chances are, I’ve heard of this song before. Anyway, it’s those lines, “We are always running for the thrill of it, thrill of it” that instantly got me hooked.

2. Regina Spektor – The Calculation

The talented Regina Spektor – and her distinct sound. Of course, it’d be a no brainer for me to have her in this list!

1. MoZella – Can’t Stop

MoZella’s got a couple of songs in Castle, but I remembered hearing this song and having the urge to look for it, ASAP. I mean, you just have to listen to Maureen McDonald’s (MoZella) voice in “And I just can’t stop…” and this song’s lyrics.
