I have been itching to write about The Head and the Heart, but the thing is, I just can’t find the words to describe their music. Well, for starters, they are folk, but there’s something very nostalgic about the way they sound. I don’t know about you, but every time I listen to The Head and the Heart, I picture the woods and a bonfire surrounded by tents – where people huddle up with their instruments singing while the fire flickers.
It is a weird way to put it, but there is something very deep and profound etched in each of their songs’ lyrics, backed up by their powerful vocals. I swear, once Charity (vocals and violin) jumps in with Jonathan and Josiah in the song, I shiver. It is simply a wonderful harmony – what these people create. And they have such profound tales in their songs that you can’t help feeling like your heart melted in along with their voices.
See, even my writing turns into mush when it comes to them. So, just listen. Close your eyes, and do me the favor of listening.
“Lost in My Mind” was the first song that I heard from the band, followed by “Down in the Valley”, but I will never cross out “Coeur D’Alene” from my favorites of all time. Put it up there with Nickel Creek and Mumford and Sons.
